Solani Gold Label, Blend 779 in my first ever pipe, Savenelli Roma 602 6mm filter.
My first bowl of the day and it was a really good one. My pipe smoking has been a bit flat lately for whatever reason but this was one of those magic ones. I felt like packing it up and having another one straight away but resisted the temptation.
If this cheapish little pipe keeps smoking like this I will have to promote it to my "best smoking" pipe. I have underrated this pipe for way too long.
Regardless, I definitely need to experiment more with 6mm filters. I seem to get all the benefits of a 9mm filter plus the smoke is better.
P.S. I really hate those warning labels. Is that achieving anything at all but ruining the look of a nice tobacco tin? I mean, I get it for cigarettes to a point. And I think a small warning label is reasonable just so there can be no claiming, "but I didn't know smoking was unhealthy" - as hard as it is to imagine anyone being ignorant enough to argue that these days. But is that huge thing taking up half the tin art really, really helping anyone at all?
Sorry, rant over.
Robert McConnel Oriental with 20% Syrian Latakia to correct the excess of Cavendish. Tins of this blend since 2017 have less Orientals and more Cavendish. In various squat bulldog.
Started the day with Capstan blue in my usual cob paired with coffee.
This baccy is everything you all said, such good smoke!!
Last evening I had four bowls: Peterson Royal Yacht in a bent Rhodesian, Sutliff Aromatic English in a MM Country Gentleman, and the June Compare & Share #2, also in a Country Gentleman.
This was my first smoke of the Aromatic English (which is the bulk version of the Sutliff Private Stock Eastfarthing, if I understand correctly), and though I don't smoke a lot of aromatics on the reg, this one was absolutely delightful, with a lovely vanilla tin, room, and tongue note. It struck me as something that would be even better if lengthened a bit (perhaps with another light-to-medium English like EMP, or even Five Brothers) to tone down the topping just a touch. It'll definitely make it in to some of my house blends going forward.
Absolutely nothing because it's too & $#%$ hot.
I got up early, walked the dogs and then mowed the lawn. It was overcast and tolerable. The whole time I'm thinking about a bowl of 515 RC1 with a little perique. I finished up, came inside to load my pipe, and headed out.
The second, and I mean the very second I walked outside the sun dialed up to full blast. It's just too hot in the back yard until noon or so when we get a little shade.
It's almost not worth even trying. Even in summer the smoking window is so narrow and then winter, forget about it.
First smoke in the falcon: scottish blend/capstan mix. Smokes quite well and super light and easy to clench.
I just got back from spending the day doing extensive concrete repairs with my stepson around his pool. I’m feeling old at the moment, but I’m smoking Pipe Force Episode VI in a BC calabash and it’s rejuvenating me quite well.
Big N' Burley in a Savinelli Punto Oro 111KS
Tonight was another three-bowl night: my first taste of Hal O’the Wynd in a meerschaum Falcon bowl, C&D Three Friars in a squared billiard, and Mixture 79 in a MM Legend cob.
They were all… ok. Nothing amazing, but all solid smokes to accompany my listening to the audiobook of Master and Commander.
...been smoking tobaccopipes.com June mystery blends 1 and 2 for the past few days ...in various small-bowled pipes.
Yesterday I finished the day with Torben Dansk Orient Spezialitat aromatized with dry apricot essence. Today I begin the day with Robert McConnell Oriental. In both cases Savinelli 624.
Smoking Hill of Slane in my usual cob paired with coffee and cream. TGIF !!! 🤩 🍻
Finishing a bowl of Warhorse red. Unlike the Green, the topping doesn't get in the way. It's got a decent kick to it between the DAC and DFK.
