Usually when I get a new pipe, I put it on a shelf or in a box. But I couldn’t resist cleaning up my new to me Savinelli and trying it out. I’m smoking my own Va/Perique/DAC, etc. blend in it.

Beautiful. Everytime I try blending I'm a bit disappointed, I guess I miss something in knowledge and ability to know how.

Maybe one day you could make a thread on your blender skills 😊

It's been a bit again. Been pretty busy between. Work and home life. A girl wrecked into my truck last week so I've been having to deal with that mess.  Haven't smoked very much at all. But just got a order in to try of  Mississippi River Special Reserve Flake, Warhorse Green and Warhorse Red. The MSSRF is okay, I use to buy the original in bulk and none of it compares it. But the MSSRF is better than to current sutliff version of MS. Just had a bowl of Warhorse Green. I do not like it at all. The topping tastes like paint and the base blend tastes like a Backwoods cigar. I opened the Red and I will try it but I'm pretty sure it's going to taste the same. I'm not impressed at all with this order. I have one more order coming in of the new Per Jensen blending tobaccos. I only got the Virginia and dark fired Kentucky.  After that, I'm probably getting ready to go on a hiatus for a while. Life gets more lively during the summer so sitting down with a pipe usually is the last thing on my mind during this time of the year. It's hot in Tennessee and I don't get the satisfaction when its hot. Also haven't done anything with my whole leaf orders yet. I'm waiting on having the time to build my press box. I'll just let it sit pressing during my hiatus and see how it goes the next go around.

Sorry to hear about the truck. Hope that gets sorted out soon. And, here’s hoping that next order has blends more to your liking. The good thing about taking a break is the baccy improves with age.

Good Morning good people of the TR.

Early bird catches the worm, Saturday 5.45h am here.

No wife nor child or job for that matter to start harrasing me.

Me-Time on the balkony with one of the very few Aromatics I do enjoy in my Stanwell Jubelee 32 made in Denmark.

I feel the same about „Made in Denmark“ and „Danish Design“.

That´s one reason, but what I love about squat bulldog is that they provide 35 to 45 minutes of pleasurable Smoke. I don´t want to smoke more than 45 minutes.

@Happy Piping got me thinking about Mac Baren Mixture, so I’m having a bowl in my newly acquired Savinelli 315KS.

Having a nice evening with some lovely friends while rediscovering Ratttay's Professional Mixture, a tobacco I opened 4 years ago and forgot in the cellar. Very nice 😊

How is it possible Peterson didn't sue Savinelli, I mean Dunhill sued Sasieni over a point on the stem...

I don't know. I suppose for one thing, having a moisture trap isn't that innovative. It's the thing all Calabash pipes has, right? Or wrong? More or less, I think. The P-Lip is another thing, but again, simply having the air-hole facing a certain direction doesn't seem like some huge innovation that one could sue over.

The other thing I guess is that Peterson did it in the late 1800s. Maybe the "rights" to a certain "technology" just don't last that long?

I dunno. I'm just speculating here.

I've wondered that too. I've read comments from people who say they smoke the same but the Savinelli "P-Lip" is a larger square opening that you can get a pipe cleaner through. So they're slightly easier to clean. Plus Savinelli incorporates the optional balsa filter.

Note: This isn't to say one is better. Just highlighting minor differences.

Here's an interesting comparison with the pipes sectioned so you can see the innards.

Peterson’s patent on the “system” pipes expired in 1916, so anyone can make them. The stem dispute you mentioned was a copyright issue.

This Oriental Flake is pretty light on the Vit. N. Bit quite flavourful. Im still not sure if this is a blend I will stick with.

smoking my oldest cob. This pipe endured harsh treatment and I cherish it for being a reliable friend to the very day, easlily 5 yrs and 800 bowls later.

The pipes I love are littles ones, but I also love contradictions: behold this massive Mastro de Paja canadian, handmade in 1979, it's frickin big and full of italian kentucky (trinciato comune).

Wish me luck...

Sitting on the back patio with a brisket on the smoker, I had my first bowl ever of Arango Balkan Supreme in a new-to-me Hilson 223 that arrived earlier this week via eBay. A very pleasant tobacco in what turns out to be a lovely pipe. I’m just getting in to Balkans (already love English blends), and this one was a nice introduction.

I got 4 ounces in bulk of Arango Balkan Supreme some years ago and I really liked it. It´s a superb blend that unfortunately is not available in Spain.

Wow really nice! I'm not an expert on meerschaum aging/smoking color but looks like you're smoking it quite right!

Thanks! I’m pleased with how it’s colouring. I smoke a lot of dark blends. I wonder if that has any impact.

Just let me find the @Ted “bat-signal” thingy…! 😄

Yes it does! Darker blends will show coloring more rapidly (only, I believe because there’s more color in the tobacco juices) and usually start out with yellow/brown and given enough time will eventually become near black. Lighter Virginias and lighter tobaccos will often show up as a bit towards an orange brown, eventually becoming a dark, but warm brown. Some aromatics will produce pinks and reds. Only a rough list, it’s not always predictable.

I´ll finish the day with Solani Aged Burley flake in a Savinelli Nonpareil 9121. I think I´ll also finish the jar, so the remains will go to my recently inaugurated Frankenstein jar to keep company to a rest of Pesse canoe Oriental Flake.

Druquer & Sons “Devil’s Own” in “Leah” the Sasieni Fantail Prince(ss)

…paired with proper yellow Gatorade this time

…while doing minor repairs on the house before painting (replacing dry rotted lap board around a sliding glass door).

[Notice the “upper crust” accoutrements… chipped bowl ash tray, custom wine cork knockers with holder for custom deck screw tamper, held in place by cheese wax. We go 1st class in this outfit 😉]

First bowl of a lazy day hiding from the heat.

Big N' Burley in a the Castello 16.

BTW I'm a believer. This pipe smokes better than any of my other pipes with the exception of the miracle Bari. And that's a tie. Dry, cool, stays lit. Tastes good.

I might not become one of "those Peterson guys (although I like my system pipe). But I might become one of" those Castello disciples ".

You know what they say" Dunhill is the English Castello ". 😜

Smoking Capstan after a two month pause dedicated to other tobaccos, such a pleasure to come back to my favorite flake, Capstan blue never disappoints me. Enjoing it in my official "most beautiful pipe in the world", a Castello, under a tree on the market square, someone is playing accordeon, just perfect 😍

I haven't posted in awhile. I'm outside smoking some Oriental Supreme in my Big Ben Olympic.

I went through a month of every smoke tasting acrid. No matter what blend or pipe. I thought it might be sour pipes. I cleaned several with salt and ever clear alcohol. Still very acrid tasting. I just had my first smoke that tasted good since this started.

I narrowed it down to an infection I was fighting. I was getting very upset that I may never be able to enjoy my favorite hobby. Not to mention converse on the subject with such great people as you all.
