I love some VAs. I just put back 2 pounds of Sutliff Red Mature. Sutliff Stoved is delectable. I dig some darker VA flakes. Most of my favorites have a substantial VA element.

But I'm not a "VA guy".  I get no enjoyment from sipping a whispy VA searching for subtle hints of flavor. Probably because I suck at pipe smoking. But so it goes.

My best smokes involve burley and Latakia and perique. Dark, bold strong. Easy burning. No bite. Lots of smoke and flavor.

This made me wonder. Is there correlation with cigars? Lots of cigar smokers just love a subtle Dominican. And I can enjoy a nice creamy one in the right moment. But I lean hard to bold spicy Nicaraguan cigars. Offer me one Padron or a dozen Macanudos. I'll take the Padron.

Are VA guys also Dominican cigar fans?

I think there is not necessarily a  correllation. I like full bodied smokes when I smoke a pipe. I used to smoke cigars when good quality pipe tobacco was difficult to find where I live, and I only smoked Havana Cigars. Spain is the Havana Cigar Smoker´s paradise. Havana Cigars are classified in five strength levels from mild to strong. I changed, depending on the mood from mild to medium (2) to medium to strong (4). I still have three boxes open and I can´t find the occasion to smoke a cigar. I smoked my last cigar in February. Two and a half hours of smoke.

Well I really like both! Yesterday I realized that I smoked only Va and VaPe in flake for like a month, and I reached for the Latakia full smoke; heaven.

If you like bold cigars maybe you could try some Toscano (if you hadn't already!).

Pure Kentucky from Italy: they're beyond "strong", they're disrespectful 😎

Have you had the Joya de Nicaragua Antaño? That was the first cigar that ever kicked my butt with flavor and Lady N. I have a box of them in my humidor that I get a hankering for every now and again. Lately I’ve been seeking out Rustica blends for my pipes, and it think it’s inspired by seeking the same butt kicking that a strong cigar offers, but also wanting the pleasurable flavors (and contemplative reflection) that only pipe tobacco gives. So you may be on to something, Relight.

I have. I'm Joya fan. I recall a dark Corojo being psrticgoid.. I rarely smoke cigars these days. I have a few AJ Fernandez mixed coronas and 3 or 4 Drew Estates Red eyes on hand. I used to have 3 coolers full.
