Pipe bath and a jar of stems.

Alcohol soak and then hot water flush for the bowls. Alcohol clean and Oxyclean bath for the stems.

Will rewax and buff stumnels and then shine stems with micro abrasive pads and wax tommorow.

Thanks, I’m backlogged on so many things that haven’t gotten to do pipe maintenance like this in a while. Now I can clean pipes vicariously through your post!

I don't do it often But many of these sat dirty and unused for several years. I started out just cleaning ones I'm considering putting on ebay. Figured while I'm at it. Now those pipes are clean and I don't want to sell them. 😂

I recently got an ancient Irvin cobb in excellent shape, but it was forgotten in a basement or somewhere and has a serious musty odor problem. Scraping, shank brushing, and salt/alcohol reduced but didn't eliminate it, and I don't have any charcoal, so I've got bowl and stem stuffed completely full of baking soda. I hope it works.

Yeah, I feel bad for both you and @Joseph I’ve had only minor success with removing the fungus/mildew odor from moldy pipes. I don’t even bother trying anymore.

Have you ever. tried an ozone machine?

I haven't had a moldy pipe. But 03 is great for smoke and water damage odors.

I used to have a little machine. But I loaned it to a "friend" several years and moves ago.

I didn't know they made them, just ordered one (not for pipes).

Baking the pipe should help, shouldn't it?

You and @joseph both have musty pipes. I hope it's not contagious. 😂

If this fail, Ron. Maybe fresh air. You could mount the pipe to the grill of your vehicle and drive real fast.

It sat out in the Florida sun for a few hours. The baking soda weakened the ghost but it's still there. Next attempt will be a week sunning full of powdered charcoal. If that don't work, I'll try not to puke doing a few bowls of something strong and English...just replace one ghost with another. But it hasn't beaten me yet.

Hmmm...assuming most of the odor is in the bowl, I could try charring it again. Burn it out.

The only time I got the mildew smell out was when, after all my cleaning and deodorizing, I just started smoking it. It did disappear after about four smokes, but as you’re mentioning, it’s quite possible I just put a stronger flavor on top of it 😃.

You are right again, sir. Freight training a bowl of a strong blend (Haunted Bookshop, ironically) exorcized the last of the musty ghost. Now I need to lay down for awhile.

You, Ron, and Joseph will be writing reviews like:

"The juicy red Virginia brings red stone fruit, grass, hay and mold..."

Red Mature VA + Stoved VA in the Savenelli 123 fresh back from a spa day.

This is a before picture though.

Later this evening we'll have the 2006 Tuggle Hall the guy at the gym gave me. Dude knows what he's talking about. He's a serious pipe guy, not just some toe dipper like Ted.
