I received an email about the new Per George Jensen Blender’s Collection. I’m curious and will likely order some, not like I need more tobacco, but I’ve had good experiences with things with Per Jensen’s name on them, so they found a sucker here 🙂.

Sounds very interesting in spite of he hasn´t Oriental and Latakia. I have smoked a couple of blends by Per Jensen and they are stunning.

I read about them last night when I saw they'd been added to the review database.

It's interesting burley and VA are combined as "burley".

I have a small bit of Blender's Virginia due to arrive today, I am kicking myself for not throwing the Burley, Bold & Strong, and the DFK blends in the cart as well. Heck, I should've just gotten them all even just to try. Ugh.

I'm interested to hear what you learn.

I had some Bold and Strong in my cart last night when I bought the Pete from 4 Noggins. But I ended up removing it.

The Blenders VA arrived yesterday and it surprised me that it is very rough cut, rather than ribbon. It smells great, lots of grass/hay, and I intend to load up a bowl today to see how it is. Full report coming, but here’s a pic to whet the appetite.

I’m very curious to hear your thoughts. I haven’t yet ordered any and I haven’t heard first impressions from anyone yet.

Turns out it’s a little hot outside today to smoke something with thoughtfulness (heat index 99+), so I’ll likely wait until the weekend when it cools just a bit here to load up and evaluate the new arrival. Stay tuned!

I had my first bowl of the PGJ Blender’s Virginia, in a clay with a lager to accompany (Coors Banquet beer). It is, as I mentioned, a ready rubbed cut, kinda chunky, a little on the dry side (as befits a blending leaf that is only lightly cased and untopped).

The tin note was all grass and hay, my wife pinned it as alfalfa. That all came through on the char light, a tongue note of light hay. It stayed for the first half of the bowl, then I started to get cocoa/mocha, plus some light pepper (which had me thinking of burley).

The smoke never got wet or gurgly, or even really hot, though I began to wonder toward the end of the bowl whether I would get a touch of tar which I associate with the pepper that I was getting at the end, but the tar never came. Burned to a super fine white ash, with only the barest hint of dottle in the bowl.

This is a lovely straight VA.

BTW

It's good to have a fellow not fancy labeler here. I've been the sharpie on a jar lid  peasant to the likes of @ted, @Joseph, and others who are like museum curators.

This is my regular labeling system. Sticky notes.

To be fair, I didn’t intend it to be this way, I just couldn’t settle on how I wanted to label jars long ago and adopted this as what I thought would be a temporary measure. Now I no longer care.

I can have as much as six jars opened at the same time, now only four after finishing Pesse Canoe Oriental Flake and Aged Burley flake. so I don´t label them.

LOL. I actually have fancy labels on most of my jars, but as this one is a temporary jar it just gets the painter’s tape label. I have some new labels arriving on Friday to print for the cellaring tobacco. I’ve made quite a few orders lately and have to put in some work over the weekend…
