Four stars? Seriously? I got a free sample pouch from the Original Tinder Box in LA back in February, and I'm glad I didn't have to pay for it. This is the blandest English blend I've ever tried, and I've tried many over the years. Is it possible the sample was bad? Sure, I suppose (it was fully sealed). With so many other English blends out there don't waste your time with this one.

Very good. Kind of stuck somewhere in the middle though. Its not a WOW English or a masterpiece, and its not a good sleeper either, its in that middle ground with Hartwell's Chesdin or even for my money Butera Pelican.

Everything is here to really enjoy. Well packaged, nice big Lat hit, good supporting blends, I just wonder how many will call it a favourite.

Still, you can do a LOT worse, this has a lot going for it.

I do like ribbon/shag cuts as I like to ball then stuff during packing. This tobacco is a slightly sweet English with plenty of Oriental flavor and spice, I wouldn't say "it's LOADED with latakia ", as the description says. If I had to pick a similar tobacco I would say Dunhill's Early Morning Pipe. I'd love to see how this ages for a year.

Revised 6/30/2014- I've had this cellared for about 7 months and it has not improved. It lacks body, burns hot and ashy and is not for me.

Not a bad tobacco, but I'll stick with Boswell's or Frog Morton. It smokes cool, burns evenly, and is sweet to a point. It would be alright for a change off blend. I can see where some may make it their go to choice of mild English tobaccos and I would smoke it again. The tobacco also left the pipe clean and dry, but I have no idea what it smells like(can't smell that well). Thus I have made my very first rewiew of a tobacco. I chose a Kirsten Model B to smoke this blend in and will add the pipestayed cool right to the end of the smoke.

A rich smokey English blend. The bowl begins with the taste of the Virginia's and further through the bowl the smokey Latakia and sweet Oriental opens up. A standard English blend with all of the blending components coming through as the bowl progresses. The container I received was aged 16 years. And I can say that this tobacco ages nicely.

To me, this is an after-dinner smoke, focus on the Cyprian Latakia, the Virginia played the supporting role which gave the smoke a touch of natural sweetness and yes the Orientals is there, highlighting the most interesting part of the recipe, the spicy note is simply fantastic! Enjoyed this one immensely! A typical English smoke!

Comoy's of London - Cask #1.

It smells a bit 'different', the only descriptive word to come to mind upon my initial sniff was Dusty! Bizarre. The ribbons are just below medium in build, and as this is from bulk I can't comment on a tins moisture. However, the hydration of my pouch/baggie couldn't be any better.

Cask #1 takes to the flame easily, and burns well. Although the mechanics are good, it's not my sort of blend, really. At the start of a bowl my first quibble is with the Latakia...... where is it?! The description says 'loaded' with Latakia, but for the beginning all I get is a smoke that's heavy with Oriental leaf. The Virginia gives a fairly conspicuous sweetness; not so grassy, but pretty sweet. After a third I begin to identify more of the Latakia, but there's no chance of this being called a Lat-Bomb; it's a very gentle, woody, cedar-esc, type of flavour, not smoky, at all. I'm unsure as to whether the amount of Oriental may vary from pouch/tin to pouch/tin, but this has far too much, for me; aound the same time the Latakia strengthens in flavour, the smoke takes on too much of a bitter/sour quality from the Oriental leaf.

The room-note's only tolerable, and the nicotine's medium.

To me, this is worth no more than two stars.

Somewhat recommended.

I bought this tin because it looked intriguing. A promise of heavy latakia (unspecified provenance), Virginia and Orientals. My type of blend. My friend Bobby behind the counter indicated that the tins on display had been there three years or more. No problem there unless the pry open lid was compromised and the leaf had dried out. No worries, though. Under the lid was a tight, heavy foil seal. So the tobacco was fresh and moist.

I used one fairly new pipe (Rad Davis) And an old one (pre trans Barling's Make). Experience was the same in both. A heavy duty dose of Virginia with a subtle latakia undertone and not much noticeable in the way of Orientals. A respectable nicotine punch and an edgy flavor that kept up interest consistently throughout the bowl and produced a moderate plume of smoke. Perhaps the age of the tin has submerged the Oriental influence. Not an every day smoke for me. But worthwhile and one to use for a change of pace.
